ABOUT US

About CarFreeRoutes

See more of the world without renting a car. That is the whole idea — a place between the editorial travel guide and the transport planner, built by people who wanted proof a trip would work before booking it.

The gap we fill

Travel guides tell you what to see. Route planners tell you how to get there. Almost nobody checks the part in between — whether the whole stay, not just the arrival, actually holds together without a car. That's the question CarFreeRoutes exists to answer.

We built our own transport database rather than rely on recycled guidebook text, so every claim about how a place works can be checked, dated and, when needed, corrected.

Independent, always

We earn through booking links — trains, buses and ferries, well-connected stays, regional passes, and tours for the legs that are genuinely hard without help. Scores and recommendations are never changed by a commission.

Sometimes the best recommendation isn't the most profitable one for us — that is by design, not by exception.

Multilingual from day zero

CarFreeRoutes launched in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French together, not as an afterthought bolted on later. Car-free travel is a global habit, and the site is built to serve it that way from the start.

Who it's for

People who don't drive or would rather not rent — cost- and sustainability-minded travellers, rail enthusiasts, families juggling luggage and schedules, older travellers who want fewer surprises, and anyone looking for an alternative destination that happens to have great public transport.

Where we're headed

We're moving in plain stages: a pilot set of hand-verified destinations, routes and itineraries; validation with real travellers and their feedback; then a fuller platform where a live trip-feasibility engine tests any itinerary in real time.

We'd rather grow slowly and stay accurate than launch everywhere at once and get the details wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Is CarFreeRoutes a booking site?

No — it's an independent planning guide that links out to trusted booking partners for tickets, passes and stays once you've decided a trip works. We don't process bookings directly.

How can I give feedback or suggest a destination?

We'd genuinely like to hear it — reach out through our contact page. Traveller feedback is one of the main ways coverage and accuracy improve.
